[i]merchant General Design
Inventory Control Software
Computac’s [i]merchant inventory control software is a Microsoft Window’s based system that can be installed on any PC using the Windows 2000 or higher operating system. It has been specifically designed to deal with any type of inventory, including for example books, magazines, general merchandise, clothing, music, or food items. Using a concept we call “Industry Code” each product type can be assigned a unique “properties” screen that captures all of the descriptors that the store needs to define the nature of that product and the rules that apply to its use within the system.
The development team set out to create an inventory control software system that utilized the latest tools available to the IT professional. That resulted in the use of the following key components/elements:
- Microsoft’s .Net Framework
- Microsoft’s SQL Server as the Database Engine
- Object Oriented N-Tier Design
- Centralized Architecture
- Smart Client Workstations
- Hardware independent software
- Open Point of Sale (OPOS) Standards for POS Hardware
- Access and Links to Web Services
Not only have we taken advantage of the latest available tools to build [i]merchant, we have also drawn upon our thorough knowledge of retail operations to create a system that is comprehensive, flexible, scalable, easy to learn and use, and adaptable to any environment. The store has unprecedented control over the appearance of screens and the positioning of fields on those screens (see [i]merchant Features). We also welcome the input of customers and potential customers to help us incorporate features that are not already included in the [i]merchant inventory control software. The ultimate goal of our design is to provide a system that responds to the precise needs of our individual customers and that can comfortably accommodate their growth.
